Second Human Case of EEE in MA this Summer; Risk Level Now ‘Critical’

Massachusetts health experts confirmed a second human case of EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis) in the state, this time a woman in her 60s in Hampden County. The rare but serious disease is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. DPH raised the risk level in Wilbraham to critical and in Hampden and Monson to high. Chicopee, Ludlow, Springfield, East Longmeadow and Palmer are at moderate risk.
