Mosquito Control

Braman Termite & Pest Elimination has developed a program to help you reclaim the comfort of your backyard from mosquitoes. Our service, consisting of inspection for potential mosquito breeding places and treatment of mosquito resting places with a mild insecticide, will greatly reduce the incidence of mosquitoes on your property.

Whether it is in a birdbath, a puddle or the old tire behind the garage, mosquitoes always lay their eggs in standing water. Your Braman service professional will recommend steps to eliminate mosquito breeding opportunities around your yard to help reduce your risk.

Our goal is to provide a safe, effective service. Braman treats for pests where they are most susceptible by using precision application techniques and the most modern equipment. This helps us avoid the excessive use of pesticides.

Mosquitoes Overview

The whine of a mosquito near your ear and the itch of a fresh welt left behind after a mosquito bite were often the only consequences one was likely to remember about an average summer evening. Now, mosquito control has become more important than ever. A generation ago our mosquito concerns were centered around summertime outdoor comfort and the remote chance of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).

Now, however, we are also concerned with West Nile Virus and Zika virus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are no medications to treat or vaccines to prevent West Nile Virus infection. Zika, which can be particularly dangerous for women in their child bearing years is the newcomer. In the northeastern United States it has not yet been transmitted by a mosquito bite. Aedes aegypti (yellow fever mosquito) is not found in New England, but we do have Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito), a species that is capable of Zika transmission.

How to Protect Yourself

Wearing long sleeves and pants in the evening hours, having screened windows and doors and using mosquito repellants containing DEET or picaridin are all prudent steps to take. Some mosquitoes fly more than a mile to find a blood meal, so even a well-executed plan may be short of perfect.
